The presence of metal near the small coil causes a distortion of the magnetic field
generated by the large coil .The closer the bullet to the coil the more the distortion.
This creates an imbalance in the circuit generating a signal that can be heard from an
earphone. The closer the metal is to the small coil the louder the signal. Using the
proper software you can hear recordings of sound coming from a Bell detector as the
bullet moves closer and further from the detector.
